¿Cuáles son los métodos anticonceptivos para hombres?
Dentro del listado de métodos anticonceptivos aprobados por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, se incluyen 21 métodos anticonceptivos distintos. Sin embargo, únicamente 2 de ellos son los que pueden utilizar los hombres. Estos son: la vasectomía y el condón, además de la interrupción del coito.
La Fundación Luis Pasteur menciona estos cinco probables métodos anticonceptivos para hombres en los próximos años:
- Implantes temporales. Serían dos implantes pequeños que bloquearían el esperma.
- Ultrasonidos en los testículos. Volvería inservibles los espermatozoides durante un período aproximado de seis meses.
- Inyección de bloqueo. Sería una inyección de testosterona que detendría la producción de esperma. Esta tomaría efecto aproximadamente 10 días luego de su primera dosis.
- Pastilla anticonceptiva. Parecida a la píldora anticonceptiva femenina, un hombre debería tomarla una única vez cada tres meses.
- Control remoto. Sería una válvula del tamaño de un grano de arroz que se inyectaría en el conducto deferente para bloquear la producción de semen. Esta podría activarse o desactivarse para controlar la eyaculación.
Estos métodos aún están siendo desarrollados y/o probados por científicos en los laboratorios y ninguno de ellos tiene una fecha definitiva de lanzamiento.
Uno de los nuevos métodos anticonceptivos para hombres, se conoce como Vasalgel. Consiste en un gel anticonceptivo que se inyecta en el pene, directamente en el conducto deferente. El mismo actúa como una barrera que impide el paso de los espermatozoides.
La inyección ha demostrado tener un alto porcentaje de efectividad para prevenir el embarazo y no afecta la eyaculación ni la sensación de placer. Sin embargo, no sustituye al preservativo, pues no evita riesgos como las infecciones de transmisión sexual.
Podemos decir que se trata de una opción interesante que amplía las opciones de los actuales métodos anticonceptivos masculinos. Si bien no hay una fecha exacta, algunas noticias indican que la inyección podría estar disponible para la venta, muy pronto.
